Third day. 18.01

As usually our day started with breakfast. During the breakfast we have been divided for two groups. So one group was supposed to work this night and the second group could have a rest and on the other day we change. So for me it was free day, I had to work only on the next evening-night. After breakfast we went to private beach where we also have kind of a camp where we check nests. So first we had to check if there are any baby turtles and then we had some free time to swim in the ocean. You know, it is so beautiful place, seemed as a paradise and if somebody could show me a picture of this place I would say that’s the picture from the Google, as it’s not the real one, but with many different effects etc.

When we came back we went for the lunch. After the lunch the first group went to take a nap before long nights and I and my roommate we eent to the beach. I have to say I saw the most beautiful sunset ever!!!

 

 

 
I can’t choose one, they are all so beautiful😍 In the evening after the dinner  we decided to buy sangria and talk to each other a little bit to get to know each other better and then we went to sleep. Meanwhile the other group was working at night and they even happen to see mother turtle nesting.

Second day. 17.01.2019

My day started very early. I thought I will be so tired so even sleeping until 10AM won’t be enough, but I woke up around 6:30AM and around 8 AM went downstairs so I can find the WiFi and let my roommates to sleep. There I found a girl who wasn’t sleeping as well and we decided to go to the beach. It was cloudy there and even raining a little bit, but when raining stopped we decided to take a walk. And then we went back to the hotel for the breakfast.

After the breakfast we went to see a truck where we have boxes with sand and eggs and we were told that mostly every day we will check if turtles are hatching. We were lucky and we got to see baby turtles😍

 

We have found all the turtles from the boxes and we put them in one cleaned box so later we could release them into the ocean. After that we had some free time and then we went for a lunch. During the lunch they told us some information about the work etc. Then after the lunch we had some free time to prepare for the work and around 7:30 PM we went to Puerto Vallarta in our workcamp. When we arrived we met some workers and first we supposed to have dinner and we started our way to the restaurant. After the dinner we went to check some nests and there were newborn baby turtles and for the first time we hade a chance to release them 😍 Before they gave us baby turtles we had to wash our hands with the sand, so in that case we won’t have any oils on our hands. We started to release them and it is the most amazing thing I have ever done😀 Then we went to the other side where we have a camp with everything needed to stay at night. After some time there we split up and half of group stayed at the camp and half of the group went back to the side where we were releasing baby turtles. After some time 3 of us and the camp worker went to patrol our side of the beach bike quad bike. That was so cool, but unfortunately we didn’t find any mother turtles nesting and then we came back to the camp. I thought as estonian I am used to the cold, but I was wrong😂 It was very cold at night and using the light jacket wasn’t enough for it. Then we spent few hours more there and around 5 AM it was time to go back to the hotel.

First day. 16.01.2019

After very long flight I finally made it to the Mexico. There I got to know that my baggage has been lost. Not the best news, but luckily I had my backpack with some things for first time in case my baggage will be lost. So when I reached a hotel I met with our coordinator and 2 mexicans who are also working for this camp. We went for a breakfast and in a few time some other volunteers joined us. Ater the breakfast we decided to go to the beach. The sun was shining and I just realised I was next to the Pacific Ocean, that was wonderful!

After I went to the room to take a nap before lunch but I missed it because I woke up just in the evening (that's all because of 12 hours flight). In the evening when everyone arrived we went to the restaurant to have dinner, there we were talking and getting to know each other. After dinner we went back to hotel and then went to sleep.

Introduction

Hello. My name is Nastja and I am from Estonia. In july 2018 I have found a project which is called “Saving turtles in Mexico” and decided to participate while I have an opportunity. So this is a special camp and it’s main aim is to help turtles to survive. Because of some animals and people who are eating them some species are in danger of extinction and to help them to survive we are patrolling the beach at night in case to find turtles nesting and then to collect their eggs and put in the safe place. Each day we check if there are newborn turtles and if we have few we realise them at night or on sunsets.
